Training on taxonomy of sharks of the Maldives
With collaboration from BOBLME project, a training on taxonomy of sharks was conducted on 21st of January 2013. 16 fishermen from two tuna longline vessels, Big Eye 02 and Sunfish attended the workshop. The fishermen were first briefed about the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, and on the importance of logging of catch including by-catch. This was followed by a detailed presentation on the taxonomy of the most common sharks found in Maldives giving particular importance on oceanic sharks. The new long line log-book was also presented to the fishermen.
