Stakeholder Consultation to present the National Plan of Action on the Conservation and Management of Sharks (NPOA-Sharks)
With assistance from Bay of Bengal Large Marine Ecosystem Project (BoBLME), Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture developed the first National Plan of Action on the Conservation and Management of Sharks (NPOA-Sharks). On 10th of April 2014, Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture hosted a stakeholder consultation to present the NPOA-Sharks at the auditorium of State Electric Company Ltd (STELCO) in Male’. All six areas of the Action Plan were presented and at the end of the consultation stakeholders presented their feedback on the proposed actions. Stakeholders ranging from former shark fishermen, tuna longline vessel operators, representatives from government agencies and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) attended the consultation meeting.
